“If you want it, you’re all in like it has to happen, has to happen, you might have to call 3 people, 22 people like me, or 300 but you can make it happen. Sometimes people will say no multiple times but it doesn’t always mean it’s something just on you. Keep trying.” - Host Dave Swillum
“ When you’re working with people, people are people first. The faster you can find that out the faster you can get to that other side.” - Host Dave Swillum

E96:
When you have that go getter mentality you do a lot and thats awesome, you have to take action to make it happen. BUT it’s really easy to do the wrong or less productive things when you don’t have a schedule or focus on the most important things in the right order. On this episode we talk about having a weekly schedule, time blocking activities, staying engaged with your passion even when you have to be patient.
Dealing with the “slow” times while you are building something can be really hard to not act more than you can. We fill the time we have with the activity so controlling that and shifting our focus and energy to hit our goals is important for anyone getting busy pursuing their passion full time.
In This Episode We Cover
- Staying focused
- Staying engaged
- Dealing with the slow times
- Having a weekly schedule
- Getting a lot done and the right things done
- Time blocking
- Parkinson's Law
- Accomplishing our hardest task before noon
- Giving yourself days down
Quotes
“ I feel good when I’m doing things, it’s a vice of mine to do things.” - Host Dave Swillum
“ Giving your self the ability to F$%*$ off, give yourself F$&$ off days.” - Host Dave Swillum
“ The people that get it are the people that stay in the game the longest.” - Host Dave Swillum

E94:
Live on site at a new restaurant concept for this episode. We captured this after hours in my new home town with the owners of Craft Curbside so the audio isn’t perfect but the vibe is spot on. We talk through opening a restaurant experience during COVID times and starting with nothing. Going through coming up with a new concept for your business, keeping low overhead, and making an experience for your community.
Chase, Dylan, & Tyler share how this place came to be, how they started up, and where they want to go. Looking at local impact can make you part of the community you serve instead of just making it where your business is located at. E93:
Welcome to the episode! Today is for the stay at home moms out there that have been wanting to start their own creative business but haven’t felt like they could. We interview Nicole Gearty of Nicole Gearty Photography about her transition through multiple part time jobs while being a stay at home mom to business owner living full time off her creative with her little one.
Nicole and I chat on the differences between having business owners and entrepreneurs in the family or none, taking feedback, gear, resetting, and all the things that come in to play as a mother starting a business keeping a space and time for yourself and continuing to be a great parent. Although we talk a lot about the parent aspect we cover a range of topics in the creative living space so there’s something here for everyone.
In This Episode We Cover
- Losing your income
- Childcare vs having your child at home
- Starting a business as a stay at home parent
- Taking feedback
- Letting your defenses down
- Long distance relationships while pursuing your goals
- Resetting
- Taking real photos, the moment
- Business owner parents vs non business owner parents?
- The hard parts of owning a business vs the fantasy dreams
- Making time for yourself
Quotes
“ When you own your own business and you can’t work you don’t have sick time you’re not getting paid for those days. I’ve seen those days and those are hard but I’ve seen enough to know that’s still what I want to do.” - Nicole Gearty
“ Owning your own business and being employed is like the difference between renting an apartment or owning a house. When you are renting an apartment and the heater breaks down you can just call the land lord and they’ll come fix it. When you own your own house and something breaks down you have to fix it but your investing in yourself.” - Nicole Gearty
“ People aren’t just a thing, we are super complicated. People like to put things in certain ways and organize like files, but people are so complex, your not just a thing, your a person.” - Host Dave Swillum

Fish Tank Philosophy: Planning To Fit The Size Of The Goal
Tuesday Jan 19, 2021
Tuesday Jan 19, 2021
E92:
With everyone planning at the beginning of the year and goal setting one of the biggest things I’ve seen go wrong is not planning big enough for the potential you have. If you are working to bring your business or art to a higher scale you may not know what level you can be at until you’re there…..so how do you plan for that?
A very half truth but I love the saying “A goldfish will grow to the tank size you keep it in” so don’t plan at the level your tank is now, plan for the tank you want to be in or you’ll never grow to your full potential.
Very short episode on how to plan your goals larger than where you are at so you can become a larger gold fish in the future because you have to…..or something!
In This Episode We Cover
- Goldfish grow to the size of the tank
- Aiming and planning past your current abilities
- Planning to “figure it out”
- Don’t plan to outgrow when you hit it
- We aren’t aware of what we will know
- What’s the One Thing?
- You will fit the shape of the space or challenge you start
- Give yourself the chance to be bigger than you are now
Quotes
“ When your planning your next step or your goals for this year, make sure your planning to put yourself in a large fish tank instead of planning based off of what you are aware of right now, you will out grow that right when you reach the goal.” - Host Dave Swillum
“ Give yourself the chance, give yourself the ability for yourself to grow into the ability for a bigger plan than you have now.” - Host Dave Swillum
