Today I interview an artist who’s interviewed me as an artist before so it’s an honor to return the conversation. Rob Azevedo founded and hosts the Granite State of Mind radio show highlighting local musicians live every week in New Hampshire. I got to know Rob from going on his show and performing in Concord and Manchester over the years. He recently published his first poetry book after publishing his first book a few years ago so I wanted to talk about it. As a creative, business owner, or dreamer it’s really easy to shut an idea or dream down. “I can’t because…….” I want that to change to “How can I? Here’s a few ways.”
We spend a lot of time talking about why something can’t happen but by starting there we never look into information we may not know yet, perspectives of those that have or are doing it, or even give ourselves permission to pursue it. Let’s have a discussion about a simple flip about how we assess how something can or can’t happen and why instead of saying it can’t happen and giving up. This can force you to find a way when you didn’t know there was one.

It isn’t easy going after your dream and it’s even harder to say it isn’t the right path after giving up so much. My wife Meagan and I sold our house, lived long distance as a married couple for a year (would have been 4) and dealt with depression and other hardships to give her the ability to get into and be a part of a doctoral degree pursuing her Vet degree. After all of that it was difficult for Meg to say it wasn’t the right path but in the process she found what she was meant to do.
While at school Meg was in business clubs and realized she liked the business aspect of running a vet practice but didn’t visualize herself practicing the medicine, just running the business. Listen to the story of what she’s working on now on her own entrepreneurial story and what it’s like to tell your spouse, friends, and family and make a change.
