E21: Writing Your First Book & How Down Syndrome Could Change Your Outlook W/ Tori Swillum
Today we take a look inside my family to introduce my sister Victoria Swillum. Tori is a dance major at Dean College who specializes in studio management and focuses on adaptive dance in the Down Syndrome community. Tori recently wrote her first book while at college on Down Syndrome awareness and how dance can play a role in the mental ability community. When Tori isn’t writing or doing her classes she works at the Boston Ballet and does adaptive dance courses at a local senior center for adults with a range of abilities. This episode dives into our mindset development from growing up with our brother Dylan who has Down Syndrome and what we’ve taken from the experience. Dylan has played an absolutely pivotal role in our mindset and outlook on life and we cannot be more passionate to share this feeling with people who haven’t had the chance to get involved with the community. Lastly we talk about writing your first book and some of the steps to take to make it happen.
In this episode:
- Write a book! You can do it and distribute it for real!
- Self accountability
- Fighting procrastination or knowing how you work best
- Framing a book out, how to get started
- Technology gives you the access, distribution is ours now
- Dance in public if you want to, live like no one is watching
- Don’t let other people determine what you do as a person
- Creating friendships with the mental abilities community
- Stopping judgement, awareness of our own built in bias
- Progressing the disabled community with modern times
- Art is an unspoken language, how does this help non-verbal people?
Quotes:
“ For me procrastination isn’t bad because it’s when I actually do things” -Tori Swillum
“ There’s nothing to lose, there’s no money to lose” - Tori Swillum
“ Some people don’t know how to not care” - Tori Swillum

Welcome to E18 The First Micro-Segment
Today I wanted to mix it up a bit from the interviews we have been doing and try to provide value to specific groups of our audience. We usually go a bit longer so these will be shorter micro episodes that are based off of information I've gathered myself through my own experiences or from our guests on the show that weren't covered in the interviews!
One of the BIGGEST reasons I told myself I could pursue my dreams was because I was living paycheck to paycheck doing exactly what I thought I was supposed to do. Get out of college, get a job, and get a house. We lucked out with the timing of our house purchase so I don't regret anything but at the end of the day I had to make a change in my spending habits and financial living so I could make the decisions I needed to make and take the risks I needed to take to move my life in the direction I want.
In this episode I talk about some tips I have from getting out of living paycheck to paycheck based off of what works for me. If your not in this position or feel like my ways are not effective thats ok! Skip this one and I'll see you on my interview segments or on some other topics that may be more applicable to your status.
In this episode:
- My quick financial journey
- Ways to see your cashflow
- Personal financial planning techniques
- Ways to save money
- Ideas to make more money without making it at your day job
- Ways to attack debt in a more manageable way
- Ideas for your future growth in starting to pursue financial freedom

George offers invaluable insight on his road from addiction to wellness and prosperity and the role that yoga, meditation, and a proper diet has meant to create a life long structure of success. Nourish Mindful events truly embodies the notion that when you enrich yourself and your process, success can "pop up" out of nowhere. I am very sorry for the puns...

"There's three main things you need to thrive: Community, a set of tools, and some sort of framework for purpose or service" - George Peterson
"Just because your going for it doesn't mean it's instant gratification. You can't just go from 0 to 100, the overnight fame, those people were working their ass off for 10 to 15 year before that then it clicked" - Dave Swillum
